One of Scott's Waverley novels, The Bride of Lammermoor is a dark Romantic historical novel. First published in 1819, this tragedy explores doomed love, descent into madness, eerie landscapes and the decay of old Scottish aristocracy.
The plans of Edgar, Master of Ravenswood to regain his ancient family estate from the corrupt Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland are frustrated by the complexities of the legal and political situations following the 1707 Act of Union, and by his passion for his enemy's beautiful daughter Lucy.
About this book
Bibliography information: Published 1985 (month and date unknown); Introduction by Gilert Phelps; Illustrations by Sue Scullard - 38 wood-engravings in the text; Typeset in Monotype Bembo with Old English for display; Printed and bound by Butler and Tanner, UK. Please note that titles published by Folio do not carry an ISBN.
Please also note, the book title on the spine has been set running bottom-to-top, rather than the more commonplace top-to-bottom. This doesn't affect the book itself but may be visually jarring when shelved alongside other titles.
About this pre-owned copy
This is a near fine book with the jacket, pages and binding all in great condition, including the silver foiling on the spine. Unfortunately, the book has lost its slipcase. The illustrations accompany the text well and the wrap-around image on the cover of a crow is stunning.
